Mechatronics prepares graduates to use basic engineering principles and technical skills in developing and testing automated, robotic, and electromechanical systems. Students will gain knowledge and hands-on training for the in-demand field of Mechatronics, which combines electronics, mechanics, computer control, robotics, instrumentation, process control, PLCs, and other forms of industrial automation. Course work includes safety, measurement, quality control, electronics, mechanical systems, motor control, hydraulics, pneumatics, PLC programming/wiring, sensors, actuators, robotics, process control, and maintenance awareness. Classes will stress critical thinking, planning, troubleshooting, and problem solving. Students will also learn about manufacturing methods, basic mathematics, ethics, and oral/ written communication skills. Careers in this field span a broad range of interests including manufacturing, energy, plastics, communications, aerospace, agriculture, robotics, medical, and many more. Graduates earn an Associate in Applied Science Degree in Mechatronics.
